PJD Mint
Our name, our farm, and our primary herb
When we purchased our land in 2018, we were excited about what living in an agricultural district could do for us: immersion with nature, slower pace of life, access to fresh foods and vineyards (oh, the vineyards!) However, working with degraded land made us immediately realize that we had immense resources to give, not just gain, through fostering this connection.
PJD Mint is our farm and our home. Stewarding the land we worked so hard to call “ours” and discovering how it provides has been the most engaging educational experience of our lives.

We started by removing trash, filling hundreds giant garbage with the artifacts of someone else’s life: shattered glass, car parts, barbed wire, cans, broken china, you name it. We planted mint everywhere there weren’t construction trucks while built our cabin, garden, and bigger dreams.
The word mint means to create. It also means to be in pristine condition. “Worth a mint” means very valuable. These are all situations we like surrounding our homestead, aspirational as they may be.

Mint sustains us. It grows abundantly and reliably. It’s a tasty herb, makes a refreshing tea, and a healing tincture. It flowers for pollinators, keeps mosquitos and ticks away, and withstands chickens. The strong smell of mint is the most pleasant, cool, and sweet notes you can possibly imagine as we tromp through our overgrown paths. Mint is in every pot and along every edge. Mint helped transform our property from a scary, condemned shack into a functional farm.
Building the infrastructure for our small homestead to be a business that supports other small homesteads is never-ending but we are so grateful to be here, now.

Our goal is to show how easy and beneficial it is to live agriculturally. It’s not for everyone, but anyone could benefit from strengthening their bond to the source of their sustenance.
Thank you for being here with us. Your support means the world!
